Washington, DC

I decided quite spontaneously that I was going to fly somewhere the upcoming weekend.  I didn't have any requirements except that transportation be cheap and the place be safe.  Who travels more than my own brother THE Captain!?  He immediately said DC. He said the metro rail/bus is easy and there is lots to do in walking distance.  I started searching right away for a hotel and got a killer deal albeit near the wrong airport... Although that caused me more travel money and a tighter schedule, it wasn't a total disaster.

Since I fly standby and I do not plan to take time off for these shirt trips -- I would only be staying one day.  I arrived at DCA at 9AM on February 22.

I have decided to start a blog on my adventures so I do not remember in detail this trip since it is now July. Luckily I did use Notes on my phone to take a few notes on what I did. :)

Saturday
Arrived @ Airport 9am
First Metro ride
Pentagon Memorial
Arlington Cemetery
Walked over the Potomac
Lincoln Memorial
GWU campus
Lunch
Bus to Dulles
Shuttle to hotel
(Planned to do a haunted pub crawl but did not make it..)

Sunday
Smithsonian ZOO
Had the best hotdogs from a food truck
White House
Washington memorial
[lots of really pretty buildings on my walk]
Georgetown Cupcakes
Interesting taxi ride back to hotel

I realize I missed a TON of really great historical marks, but it was so fun and liberating to go somewhere so far from home ALONE!

What I learned:
- DC subway is actually really clean
- Pentagon Memorial will stir emotions like no other but is incredible
- I'm proud to be an American
- the White House looks so intimidating and huge
- People use their horns there more than any place I have been
- Georgetown Cupcakes are amazing even if they get totally smashed on the way home. I may have ate ... Well almost all of them.
- 40ish hours in DC is not enough

:)
Enjoy a few pics...
